Tape In hair extensions are one of the newest methods available and are fast becoming one of the most requested.
The tape hair extensions come in approximately 4cm wide strips and they are applied using a bonding tape, where your hair is sandwiched between two tapes creating less tension on the hair than other methods.
This method is perfect for everyone who wants to add length, volume and colour to their hair. Especially for those who have finer hair as the tapes lay flat to the head and are seamless and discreet.
Tape hair extensions need to be re-fitted approximately every 6 weeks to keep them nice and secure and to minimise any damage.
They are removed, cleaned and can be re-taped, meaning you can reuse the hair for 6-12 months using the right aftercare.
Aftercare and Maintenance:
Pre Care Information:
Before having your extensions fitted you must ensure that your hair is clean and freshly washed without using conditioner and do not use any styling products such as serums, hairspray or shine spray etc.
Aftercare Information:
After you have had your extensions fitted you MUST follow the information below to extend the life of your hair extensions and to reduce damage to your own hair and your extensions.
You must not wash your hair for at least 24 hours after fitting, preferably 48 hrs.
Ensure you regularly check that the tapes (bonds) are completely sealed to stop moisture from getting into the bonds. If they are not correctly sealed moisture will get into the bonds softening them and causing them to slip.
Your hair extensions must be brushed before washing, this will help prevent matting.
Always use a brush good detangling brush.
Remember to hold your tapes (bonds) as your brush to ensure that you are not tugging on the hair or creating too much tension on your scalp
When washing your hair, you must avoid using scrubbing motions. Simply smooth shampoo through your hair and gently wash it out. Do not not apply shampoo through the mid lengths and ends, when you rinse the hair simply allow it to run though.
Avoid tipping your head upside down when washing or styling as this will prevent tension and matting.
Conditioner should not be used on the scalp, and used on the mid lengths and ends only. Using conditioner on the scalp will cause your tapes (bonds) to slip.
Use products specifically designed for hair extensions recommended by your technician. Sulphate free products are the best for hair extensions. Supermarket branded products can be very damaging to your extensions and must not be used. They are also not recommended for your own natural hair.
Your hair extensions should always be dried. Blow dry your hair on a low setting especially at the root. Heat at the root will cause them to soften and slip out. Your hair should be blow dried to close the cuticle and keep it in top condition. Excess heat on your hair extensions will lead to a shorter life span.
Separate your bonds on a regular basis to reduce matting and tangling.
ALWAYS use heat protection to ensure you are not damaging your hair extensions and your natural hair.
ALWAYS plait your hair when you are sleeping or playing sports or in the gym to avoid matting and tangling.
It is totally normal to loose the odd hair extension and have the odd one slip. However if you feel you are loosing excessive amounts of hair your must contact your technician.
DO NOT try and remove your hair extensions by yourself. You must allow your technician to do this to prevent damage to your natural hair.
